Getting Care
AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana will pay for covered Medicaid services provided by one of our doctors or other health care providers. We call these doctors and other health care providers our network providers. All of these "in-network" doctors can be found in our provider directory.
A doctor or provider who is not an in-network provider is called an out-of-network provider. If you go to an out-of-network doctor, hospital or lab, for non-emergency services you will need to get prior authorization (pre-approval) from AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana. If you do not get prior authorization for non-emergency services, you may have to pay for the services.

Nurse Call Line
As an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana member, you have access to a 24-hour Nurse Call Line at
1-888-632-0009. The Nurse Call Line is a free service available seven days a week. You can call the Nurse Call Line when you or a family member is sick, hurt, or in need of medical information. Our specially-trained nurses can answer questions and give you information when your doctor is not available.
Our nurses:
- Can help you choose the right level of care based on your symptoms
- Can give tips on how to care for yourself at home
- Will call you back to see how you are feeling
Remember, the Nurse Call Line does not take the place of your doctor. Always follow up with your doctor if you have questions about your health care. In some cases, the nurse may suggest that you call your doctor. If you think you have an emergency, call 911 or local emergency services first.
Or, if you want general information about a health care topic, you can email our nurses. They will call you back within 24 hours. If you have a specific health-related question, please call the Nurse Call Line at 1-888-632-0009.
