Postpartum care

AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana is dedicated to healthy moms and babies. After you have a baby it is important to:

• Call your OB to make an appointment for your postpartum checkup. Try to get an appointment within 3 to 7 weeks after you have your baby, unless your doctor wants to see you sooner.
• Call AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Member Services to let us know the baby’s name and the name of your baby’s doctor, if your baby is on AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana. We can help you choose a doctor for your baby if you have not already chosen one.
• Call LA Medicaid Customer Service Line at 1-888-342-6207 to update your information. TTY users call 1-800-220-5404. You can also go to your regional Medicaid Eligibility Office. Tell them about your new baby. This is very important. They will make sure you get the benefits and services your baby needs.
• Call the baby’s doctor (pediatrician) to make an appointment for your baby. Your baby should have an appointment when he/she is 2-4 weeks old, unless the doctor wants to see your baby sooner.
