Emergencies and urgent care
Emergency care
Emergency care is medical care you need right away to treat a serious, sudden injury or illness.
If you think you have an emergency, call 911 or go to the Emergency Room.
Urgent care and you
Not all injuries or sicknesses need emergency room visits, but they may still need medical attention. For little to no wait time, you can visit an urgent care center (PDF).
Use the Find a Provider tool to find an in-network urgent care center near you.
Out of town?
If you or a family member gets sick and need medical care when out of the service area, call Member Services at 1-888-756-0004. They will assist you.
Nurse Call Line
As an AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana member, you have access to a 24-hour Nurse Call Line at
1-888-632-0009. The Nurse Call Line is a free service available 7 days a week. You can call the Nurse Call Line when you or a family member is sick, hurt or in need of medical information. Our specially-trained nurses can answer questions and give you information when your doctor is not available.
Our nurses:
- Can help you choose the right level of care based on your symptoms
- Can give tips on how to care for yourself at home
- Will call you back to see how you are feeling
Remember, the Nurse Call Line does not take the place of your doctor. Always follow up with your doctor if you have questions about your health care. In some cases, the nurse may suggest that you call your doctor. If you think you have an emergency, call 911 or local emergency services first.
Or, if you want general information about a health care topic, you can email our nurses. They will call you back within 24 hours. If you have a specific health-related question, please call the Nurse Call Line at 1-888-632-0009.
