Signs and symptoms

ADHD behaviors are broken into 3 categories: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Inattention

Inattention is how well you can focus. Someone with inattention may:

  • Get distracted easily.
  • Have a hard time paying attention.
  • Miss details or make mistakes.
  • Stop listening in the middle of a conversation.
  • Put off work (procrastinate).
  • Lose items easily.
  • Be forgetful.

Hyperactivity

Hyperactivity is how easily you can sit still. Someone with hyperactivity may:

  • Fidget or squirm a lot.
  • Get up and walk around when they shouldn’t.
  • Run or climb when they shouldn’t.
  • Talk a lot.
  • Have a hard time doing quiet activities.

Impulsivity

Impulsivity is how well you can control yourself. An impulsive person may:

  • Be impatient.
  • Have a hard time waiting.
  • Interrupt others.
  • Yell out answers.
